Sweets Kill!
Most of us love sweets: chocolate, cookies, cake & Co. are considered „mood lifters“ and „anti-frustration-food“. 165 million tons of sugar are consumed worldwide, 30 million tons in Europe alone – this means that the global sugar consumption has tripled in the past 50 years.
With our newest health blog we want to create an awareness, because most of the consumers don’t realize that sugar is a major component of most industrial foods like ketchup, fruit yogurt, cereals or sausage products. For example: a supposedly „healthy“ whey drink can contain 50g of sugar.
Children apparently seem to consume the most – with an average of 50.9 kilogramm of sugar per year. Organic biscuits, breakfast cereals or cereal bars, all these products contain more sugar than you think. According to a study by Food Watch, breakfast cereals aimed specifically at children contain up to 50 percent more sugar than breakfast cereals for adults. As a consequence, children are encouraged to be „Sugar Junkies“ from an early age.
A study was able to prove in fact, that already two glasses of sweetened lemonade a day can increase the risk of developing pancreatic cancer by 87 percent.
Considering that about 35 million people die every year from the sequelae of excessive sugar consumption, which is more victims than relating to cocaine, heroin and tobacco combined – it seems this sweet source of joy has transformed into the most dangerous drug of our time. Sugar causes numerous painful and deadly diseases. Sugar also changes the brain metabolism, harms the liver, irritates the stomach and destroys the healthy intestinal flora. Furthermore, sugar affects the efficiency of the immune system.

In line with the motto „you are what you eat“ it is important to make wise decisions. As often as possible, eat fresh, untreated food. When you do consume sugar, select “good” ones, like Manuka Honey, Coconut Blossom Sugar or Stevia. Whenever you can, avoid processed foods. Also, try to integrate physical activities such as yoga, walking, swimming and other into your daily routine. Take the stairs instead of the elevator or choose the bike for short distances.
